a momentary glimpse of reason

week one

following on from last week’s “day one” theme… the first full week of carnivore has now been completed. It’s been interesting, that’s for sure!

I won’t pretend that it’s been 100% easy; overall it’s not that hard to adhere to, but it did take some persistence early on. Even as a confirmed long term meat lover, I don’t think I would have managed without eggs and cheese being in the mix.

I’m also told that some cut out coffee as well – and that would be well beyond the pale!

Positives have been that I’ve not had hunger pangs, even skipping lunch a couple of times, and I find I’ve been eating less in the evening. Starting the day with a substantial cooked breakfast really does set things up nicely.

We had a morning tea at work on Friday, and I didn’t even feel tempted by the cakes and biscuits – opting instead for a couple of meat sticks and some cheese.

I’ve been a little thirstier as well, but that could be because the weather is warming up at last. In any case it’s meant that I’ve been hydrating well.

I did experience some stomach issues, but nothing too bad, and it’s all part of the body adapting to the new regime.

Overall my energy has been fine, and it’s been a mainly positive first week – and the numbers show some early signs of progress:

weight: 152.65kg (loss of 1.25kg)
body fat: 37.4% (slightly lower)
body fat: 57.1kg (0.8kg lower)
water: 8.8% (no change)

This is essentially telling a story of almost a kg of fat being gone, and the rest mainly water.

My blood sugar level has been 5.2 to 5.6 in the morning, and 4.3 to 4.7 in the early evening.

I’ve also gone for 4 walks this week – 3 between 1.3 and 1.5km and a longer walk today of 3.5km.

There’s definitely some positives, and some momentum, to take into the next 7 days, so here’s hoping for more of the same, and maybe a little less adaptation being needed 😆
